Variable
Nothing within the painting is final.
Forms have their own colours and their own places, yet they are never fixed.
At any moment they may shift direction or become something else.
There comes a moment in the painting when it begins to establish its own order.
I submit to it.
It shows me, with certainty, how it wants to be painted.
Although the composition appears unstable and the forms seem as though they could change at any moment,
I never alter them once they have been painted.
The painting needs its own time to slowly reveal itself.
My part is simply to paint it into being.
